The goal of this solution is to ascertain the health of the motor, through the detection of electrical imbalances in the motor, and the detection of insulation degradation. This offline analysis is basically conducted while the motor is de-energised, and measures electrical characteristics like impedance, inductance and capacitance, which tells plenty about the condition of the windings.
Application areas
This service is applicable in two main areas, the AC standard predictive – which covers the measurement and diagnosis of Alternating current, and the DC standard predictive – which covers the measurement and diagnosis of Direct current. The solution is suitable for alternating current motors, servo motors, direct current motors, permanent magnet motors, switched or variable reluctance motors, generators, and a selection of transformers.
What we do
- We agree with the customer and carry out a phase to phase, as well as a phase to ground measurement of key electrical characteristics such as impedance, inductance, capacitance. The measurements are compared to each other, and to the percentage change from baseline to identify motor circuit defects.
- We conduct some of the test as one time type of inspection, however some must be trended over a period of time in order to understand the defect progression.
- We can also agree with the customer to test the motors on a set schedule, in order to properly trend the electrical characteristics, and give the reliability program the best conditional probability of finding motor circuit defects.
- The test results generated form a large data base which can be useful for analytics. Customers can view reports generated, test summaries, and trend analysis.
Benefits
- This offline analysis provides early warning of motor issues and insulation problems better tan measurements taken at operating voltaje (online), and avoids downtime by allowing the motor to remain in operation during the testing.
- Provides the earliest indicator of insulation breakdown, as trend analysis shows gradual changes in insulation systems, and helps to identify issues before it is too late.
- Helps to dictate power quality issues such as harmful harmonics, voltage imbalances, under/over- voltage, allowing plenty of time for these to be handled to avoid unplanned downtime
- Increases motor life and ensures safe operating conditions of equipment
